Ekwǫ̀ Nàxoèhdee K’è - Boots on the Ground program is looking for people to work as caribou monitors on the barrenlands in July, August and September. The job requires working two or three weeks at one of our camps at Kokètì, Deèzàatì or Ek'atì.

  • Elder (do not need resume)
  • Bear monitor (need proof of certifications or take the training)
  • Boat driver (need proof of certifications or take the training)
  • Camp helper (need proof of certifications or take the training)
  • Cook (camp cook certificate is preferred)
  • Research assistant
  • Researcher (previous research experience is required)
  • Youth (age 18-23 as of July 1 2025)

The Water Strategy Indigenous Steering Committee and the Department of Environment and Climate Change are launching the NWT Water Stewardship Award.

Following the success of last year's inaugural award, we are excited to once again honour outstanding individuals or organizations, from across the NWT who are making a positive contribution to the water stewardship in the North. 

This award recognizes those who are dedicated to ensuring that NWT waters remain clean, abundant and productive for all time. Water sustains life and ecosystems, and, through this award, we celebrate the individuals or organizations whose exceptional contributions inspire others to take action.  

Here are some key details about the NWT Water Stewardship Award:

Award Criteria: A nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria that contribute to the vision and goals of the NWT Water Strategy:

  • Displayed leadership in water stewardship initiatives.
  • Demonstrated passion, commitment and accomplishments that have contributed to the long-term sustainability of water ecosystems in the NWT.
  • Contributed to knowledge sharing through their work. This could include mentoring, training or relationship building.
  • New Category:  We are excited to introduce a new category this year to recognize youth (under 30) leadership in water stewardship efforts. NWT youth leaders making a difference in their communities are encouraged to be nominated for this special category.

Nomination Process: We encourage everyone to participate by nominating deserving individuals, organizations or youth (under 30) who have made a significant contribution to water stewardship in the NWT.

Supporting Documentation: Nominators are encouraged to provide supporting documentation such as project information, reports, testimonials or photographs that showcase the nominee’s contributions to water stewardship.

  • Deadline: May 22, 2025
  • Award announcement: The recipients of the NWT Water Stewardship Award will be announced at the 16th Annual NWT Water Stewardship Strategy Implementation Workshop.

The 2025-2026 NWT Youth Water Stewardship and Mentorship Grant Program is now accepting applications! If you're 18-30 years old and passionate about protecting our waters, this is your chance to lead a community project or event that makes a real impact.

FUNDING: 

  • Up to $1,000 for short-term community events
  • Up to $3,500 for larger community projects

The Tłı̨chǫ Interpreter and Translator Curriculum is a training manual for the Tłı̨chǫ Interpreter and Translator Certificate Program which will be used by Tłı̨chǫ Instructors to teach the seven-week intense pilot program that will be offered in the near future. 

We will share the purpose of the program, the vision and the cultural importance.

  • Focusing on established rules and customs that have been passed down from generation to generation.
  • Learning the correct performance for prayer songs, taking part in community drum dances, feeding of the fire, and traditionally managing the drums during handgames and drumming performances and, to share stories.
  • To keep the DRUMBEAT going and COMMUNITY dancing and
    RESPECT for one another.

Guided by an elder, alongside a lead drummer and a handgame player.

  • Starting: March 6th,2025 (Till end of April)
  • When: Every Thursdays between 5:00 P.M. TO 09:00 P.M.

We would love for all the handgames players and drummers to join in the fun! And for those aged 8 to 12, you're welcome to come and hang out and enjoy the show!
