Tłı̨chǫ Regional Economic Development Working Group

The Tłı̨chǫ Regional Economic Development Working Group (TREDWG) met on October 11 & 12 in Yellowknife to discuss progress on their economic development strategic plan and their efforts to increase regional training.

Chairperson Vickie Francisco noted that the plan has been officially adopted by Chief’s Executive Council, so now all four Tłı̨chǫ communities and the Tłı̨chǫ Government have authority to proceed full force.  Funding applications for training and preparation for the Tłı̨chǫ All-Season Road (TASR) are underway and regional training for a wide variety of needed services will start in early 2018.

Also discussed at the TREDWG meeting were exciting plans for the development of a new, larger territorial park at the North Arm, as well as linking with existing tourism operators in the North Slave to develop aboriginal tourism opportunities in the Tłı̨chǫ Region.

Ms Francisco explained this is an exciting time for the Tłı̨chǫ Region and everyone looks forward to creating more employment and business opportunities for people in the Tłı̨chǫ Region.
