Tłı̨chǫ Government Action Plan to Improve Housing Conditions

August 25, 2022 – Tłı̨chǫ Government is taking immediate steps to improve housing conditions for Tłı̨chǫ Citizens in all Tłı̨chǫ communities.

 

The eight-step action plan is being implemented and funded through the $42,126,383 in multi- year funding provided to the Tłı̨chǫ Government by Canada to improve housing conditions in Tłı̨chǫ communities.

 

The Housing Action Plan consists of eight key areas of delivery for the year 2022-2023:

  • Bringing 26 new modular homes into Tłı̨chǫ communities. Totaling 60 new housing units brought into Tłı̨chǫ communities by Tłı̨chǫ Government between May 2020 and April 2023.
  • Working with Community Governments to expedite community lot and infrastructure development.
  • Developing a Master Plan for the construction of Tłı̨chǫ designed housing solutions for Tłı̨chǫ communities. This work is led by the Tłı̨chǫ owned architectural firm – Urban Arts Architects.
  • Establishing a department of Housing and Infrastructure.
  • Implementing the Tłı̨chǫ Government - Housing NWT Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
  • Developing a Home Owners Maintenance/Repair Program.
  • Carrying out a region wide private home condition assessment.
  • Creating a working group to develop a Tłı̨chǫ Region Trades and Apprenticeship Strategy.
