Letter to Daycare Families: Illness

November 22, 2022

Dear Daycare Families:

As you have heard by now, there is a large amount of illness, including Covid-19, going through our communities and across the NWT. We can expect this for most of the winter months but it is important to remember some important things as we try and get through this as safely as possible.

  1. Please keep your child home if they are sick and not feeling well.
  2. We are also asking that if your child tests positive for Covid-19, please keep them home for 5 days after a positive test. There is no NWT requirement to do so but we are hoping you will consider the greater good for the community and for others in the daycare. Covid-19 is still highly contagious and is a large health concern for those with health issues or who are not vaccinated.
  3. All the daycares are going to be taking the temperatures of children and staff as they enter the daycares again. This is consistent with Tłı̨chǫ Government Policy in all other work and meeting sites.

We know this can be difficult for families but our goal is to keep other children and staff as safe as possible. The reality is that if our staff get sick, they will be expected to stay at home until they are feeling better which means that it could lead to daycare closures. We can not open if we are short of staff as we will not meet the NWT Daycare Regulations. We would like to avoid this happening as best we can.

All health and safety directives and guidelines of the Tłı̨chǫ Government Policy and GNWT Daycare Regulations will be followed to ensure a high level of cleanliness and protection in the centre for both children and staff. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the Daycare staff at your site or to myself and we will endeavor to get you an answer as quickly as possible.

In Tłı̨chǫ Unity,
Louise Richardson
Manager of Early Childhood Education Programs Tłı̨chǫ Government
