Tłı̨chǫ Annual Gathering Update

Behchokǫ̀, NT (June 10, 2020) – The Tłı̨chǫ Assembly has announced the cancellation of the “in person” aspect of the Tłı̨chǫ Annual Gathering, originally scheduled for July 7-9, 2020 in the Community of Wekweètì.

Because of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and the contagious nature of the infectious disease, the Tłı̨chǫ Assembly concluded that it would be unsafe for the Tłı̨chǫ Nation to gather together in 2020.

The Tłı̨chǫ Assembly directed the Chief’s Executive Council to develop a form of Annual Gathering for 2020 which

  • Is not “in person”
  • ensures annual reports and financial statements are available for Tłı̨chǫ Citizens, and
  • allows Tłı̨chǫ citizens to ask questions of Tłı̨chǫ Government and its institutions.

A date will be set and information will be given in the next couple of weeks.

Quote:

“The Tłı̨chǫ citizens, including our youth and Elders, have traditionally gathered together as one nation to share in our culture, celebrate our successes and talk about issues.  These are unprecedented times and we face a pandemic the likes of which have not been seen in our lifetimes. Every effort must be made to keep Tłı̨chǫ citizens and our communities safe.” - Grand Chief Mackenzie
