Marian River Fish Sampling

Through September 4-7, the recent graduates from the Tłı̨chǫ Environmental Monitoring Program, in cooperation with members of the Wek’ èezhı̀i Land and Water Board, Environment and Natural Resources, Golder Associates and the Department of Culture and Lands Protection, participated in a field study to examine fish health and water quality on the Marian River near Shotti Lake.

Under the skillful guidance of Paul Vecsei from Golder Associates, Nicole Dion from the ENR and Brett Wheeler from the WLWB, the new Tłı̨chǫ environmental monitors gained some insightful hands-on experience collecting field samples, to monitor the health of Tłı̨chǫ lands and water.

Despite strong winds and challenging conditions, the recent graduates demonstrated great fortitude and resilience, managing to capture a number of white fish along with water and soil samples for later analysis.

Many thanks go out to the environmental monitoring graduates, including Chris Football, Adrian Migwi, Alfred Arrowmaker and George Tailbone, as well as the drivers who made this possible, including Harry Rabesca, Richard Rabesca, and Leon Ekendia.
