All-Terrain Vehicle Requirements - Ride safe this summer

The Behchoko Community Government Council is the concerned with the increase use of all-terrain vehicles on roadways, and safety of Behchoko residents.     Please remember to ride respectfully within the municipal boundaries of Behchoko.  Please also note that all-terrain Vehicles, ATV's, are classified as "motorized vehicles" under the ATV and Motor Vehicle Act, and there can not be legally operated on the Edzo main road or Highway 3.  

 

Behchoko Community Government Council would like to inform residents that Bylaw Number 102-06 cited “All-terrain Vehicles Bylaw”, enacted on December 17th, 2007.

 

Below are some requirements of the  All-terrain Vehicles Bylaw:

•       Hours of operation from 8am to 9pm

•       Must be equipped with a muffler that prevents unreasonable noise.

•       Must obey all posted speed limits. 

•       May not be operated with more passengers, including the driver, than it is designed and equipped to carry.

•       Must be equipped with a headlight and tail light when operated at night, as well as at least one braking system at all times.

•       Must have a valid driver’s license. 

•       Must have insurance. 

 

For every person who contravenes any provision or provisions of this bylaw is guilty of an offence and is liable: 

  • $100 fine for 1st offence
  • $200 fine for 2nd offence
  • $300 fine for 3rd offence
  • $400 fine and subsequent offences, $300 fine plus an additional $100 for each subsequent offence.
