TCSA PUBLIC NOTICE - JK-12 EDUCATION UPDATE - COVID 19 PLANNING

To: Parents / Guardians, Staff, and Students,

As you know the COVID-19 situation continues to change rapidly and updates are being made in real-time in terms of a system-wide response; the TCSA is working with our partners to ensure that Tłı̨chǫ citizens have this up to date information.

There was an announcement was made this morning that based on the recommendation of the NWT Chief Public Health Officer (CPHO) Dr. Kami Kandola, that all NWT schools be closed now until after the Easter break. School would open again on Tues April 14, 2020. This will provide the NWT a prime advantage with respect to “flattening the curve” when COVID-19 becomes introduced into NWT. As a result all TCSA schools and March break programs will be closed effective immediately.

The TCSA wants to remind everyone that the recent Public Health Advisory from the Chief Public Health Officer regarding international travel and self-isolation applies to all returning school staff and students.

TCSA will continue to work together with ECE and Tlicho Government on planning for these school closures. All options for continued provision of educational services, including potential alternative learning plans, are currently being explored and will be shared as they are available. The Chief Public Health Officer is not currently advising closure of day homes or daycares. ECE has provided information to day home and daycare operators on behalf of the Chief Public Health Officer and will continue to do so as we receive updates.

The best source for information is government websites including: https://www.hss.gov.nt.ca/en/services/coronavirus-disease-covid-19  and the TCSA Facebook pages for information specific to TCSA programs.
