National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW) - November 22 to 28

This year, National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW) is from November 22 to 28. The theme is Change Begins with Me, which puts the focus on the efforts and actions of individuals.

It’s about making a choice to play a part in reducing the stigma surrounding substance use and people who use substances and committing to one change.

  • Change Begins with Me is the theme for this year’s National Addictions Awareness Week (NAAW). We want to present Canadians with ways they can reassess the way they think about substance use disorders and people who use drugs. Change Begins with Me builds on our 2019 NAAW campaign, Stigma Ends with Me.
We want people to stay safe during the COVID-19 pandemic, so this year, social media will be our main platform to promote NAAW. We will be running two campaigns:
  1. Be an Ambassador for Change - We are encouraging people to make a conscious choice and take real action to improve the lives of people dealing with substance use disorder. Small deeds can make big differences.
  2. Share the Facts - During each day of NAAW, we will Share the Facts on a different substance or issue affecting substance use and addiction. Sharing the facts will help to drive home information every Canadian should know about substance use. Share these facts and resources and begin a conversation about them.
