Lands Protection Department

 Some of the responsibilities under this department include:

  • Manages the Tåîchô Land Use Plan (develop, implement, and update)
  • Provides Tåîchô Land Administration (applicant receipt, research, review, issuance)
  • Tåîchô Land Management (monitoring, enforcement)
  • Reviews land use permits, water licences, crown land applications, research permits, etc.
  • Communicates Tåîchô land use activities to citizens and interested parties
  • GIS maintenance
  • Involvement in national, regional, and local environmental land-related programs
  • Works closely with the Tåîchô Land Use Planning Working Group

Môwhí Gogha Dé Nîîtåée is the traditional use area of the Tåîchô, described by Chief Monfwi during the signing of Treaty 11 in 1921. In this area, the Tlicho are able to exercise most of the rights set out in the Agreement Wek’éezhíi is the area where the Wek’éezhíi Land and Water Board and the Wek’éezhíi Renewable Resources Board Manage resources Tåîchô Lands are the lands owned by the Tåîchô Government and include approximately 39,000 km2 Tåîchô Community Lands are lands owned by each Tåîchô community government. These lands are large enough to provide for future expansion of the communities Ezôdzítí is a heritage resources. It is protected from mineral exploration and development There is a moritorium on dispositions of interest on Tåîchô lands.
