A Tour of the School

Jean Wetrade Gamètì School is a modern community school that was constructed in 1992. The school was named after a respected elder in the community, Jean Wetrade. It features four classrooms, a library, kitchen, and an office area. A recreation facility is located in the community and is used by the school. Our current enrollment is around 67 students. We have four classroom teachers, a Tåîchô language teacher, a special needs assistant, a secretary, and a caretaker. Culture and language instruction plays a very important role in our school.

Gamètì, formally known as Rae Lakes, began as a traditional hunting area for the Dogrib people. In the 1970's, with the addition of essential facilities, the settlement became a permanent community. It has continued to grow and prosper over the years. Today, Gamètì is a modern community of about 300 people.
