2006 Vancouver Exchange: A group of fourteen high school students and three educators had the experience of a lifetime, as CJBS embarked on a cultural exchange with members of the North Vancouver School District.

In February, CJBS played host, as our Vancouver guests participated in Chief Jimmy Bruneau Memorial Day celebrations, a feeding of the fire ceremony, traditional feasts, and hand games competitions in Rae. The highlight of the trip was a four-day camping sojourn in Marion Village. Braving temperatures that reached -40C, our group set rabbit snares and muskrat traps, checked fishing nets, cooked and cleaned at the campsite, and listened to traditional stories from elders.

In May, our Vancouver hosts treated us to tours of Stanley Park, Grouse Mountain, Vancouver Aquarium, Science World, Emily Carr Institute, China town, and the University of British Columbia. At UBC, we met Dogrib author, Richard Van Camp. The CJBS/Vancouver exchange created many lasting friendships and memories for everyone involved.
