Noella Kodzin

Noella KodzinNoella Kodzin. Noella Kodzin was born in Lac La Martre (now Whatì ) NWT and at the age of 3, she was adopted by Samuel and Marie Simpson originally of Rae who moved permanently to Wekweetì (Snare Lake) in 1961 to access good harvesting land for trapping, hunting and fishing. Noella stayed in Wekweetì and is married with 10 children. 

Noella Kodzin During the school year, Noella went to the school in Rae and also to residential school in Inuvik in 1963/64 to gain an education. She did not complete her grade 12, but managed to complete grade seven. Noella has worked regularly since 1970, including at the school as a classroom assistant and also for the Dogrib Treaty 11 Council as a Traditional Knowledge worker. In her spare time, she is a housewife, cooks for the families and does traditional handicrafts.

In 1984, Noella was elected to the Education Authority for the Alexis Arrowmaker School as a Board Member. She has also represented her community on the Dogrib Divisional Board of Education and the Dogrib Community Services Board. She was appointed to theTåîchô Language Committee in 2002. During the month of October 2005, Noella was appointed by the Community Government of Wekweetì to represent as Education Authority for Alexis Arrowmaker School in Wekweti.

Her vision is to focus on education for the Tåîchô region and listen to community members about their concerns. She will work with community members to make a better world for her children and grandchildren.
