Welcome to Tlicho.ca

We want this site to be a celebration of all things Tåîchô. Our traditional lands are a vast area of boreal forests, waterways, and tundra stretching from the northern shores of Great Slave Lake to almost touch the southern shores of Great Bear Lake in the Northwest Territories of Canada. From the borders of Nunavut in the east towards the Mackenzie River in the west, our land is rich in wildlife and other resources.

Tlicho Winter Road - Storm Warning (April 9, 2013)

Winds are blowing in excess of 50 km/h between Edzo and Gameti. These conditions are causing low visibility, drifting snow and snow build up on lakes.

Travel is NOT RECOMMENDED on the entire Tlicho Winter Road System at this time.

Wekweètì Winter Road will close for the season tonight (April 09, 2013) at 11:59 PM.

As daytime temperatures are forecasted above freezing, in order to extend the season and protect the road surface, the Tlicho Winter Roads to Whatì  and Gamètì will be restricted to night travel (10:00 PM to 10:00 AM) as of 10:00 PM, on Wednesday April 10, 2013.

  • The Tlicho Winter Road to WhaTi is open to 46,000 kilograms
  •  The Gameti Winter Road is open to 46,000 kilograms.

Please use caution when travelling on all Northwest Territories Winter Roads and watch for and slow down at rough and slippery areas.  Please watch for overflows and soft areas.

Tlicho Imbè Program

The Tåîchô Įmbè Program (TĮP) is a six week program that will hire secondary and post secondary summer students in each of the Tåîchô communities. TĮP will focus on Chief Jimmy Bruno’s philosophy of “being strong like two people”. Participants will be taught traditional Tåîchô skills and will earn certificates. A focus will be put on language, identity, healing and future job skills. To learn more click here.

Rosa Rabesca was born in Yellowknife and her family moved to Behchokö in the 1950’s where she has lived ever since. She married her late husband, Eddie Paul Rabesca and together they had seven children who have blessed her with many, many grandchildren.
