Application Deadline for Students on Ice Scholarships

2010-04-22

Title: Students on Ice scholarship

Application Deadline Extended until April 22, 2010, 5.00pm EST for NWT Applicants only.

Summary: Available to high school students between the ages of 14 to 18. This is an opportunity for students to participate in the August from the 4 to 20, 2010 ice breaker expedition in Canada in eastern arctic. The scholarship covers the student's airfare to and from the ships departure point, hotels enroute, meals and the time on the ship.

Participants are expected to have an interest in the environment, to be involved or at least interested in environmental issues on a local level and to be willing to bring information back to the community.

One space has been reserved for an Aboriginal (this includes Metis) student from the NWT. There are spaces on the expedition reserved for non-Aboriginal students that all other NWT students can apply for. The application deadline is April 15/10 and to date no NWT applications have been received.

Application requires documentation of Aboriginal status. If students are interested in applying but do not have a status card or other documentation regarding their Aboriginal status we can work around this. In the past students have provided letters from their land claims organization, Band or Metis organization and this has been accepted.
