PRESS RELEASE:
6th Annual Gathering Taking Place July 6 – 8, 2010
July 2, 2010
Behchokö / Gamètì
Since 1995 the Tåîchô Nation has organized an annual canoe trip that coincides with the Annual Gathering. This trip provides an opportunity to preserve and revitalize Tåîchô culture and way of life for youth in the communities. Each year a path is chosen through Tåîchô land ensuring constant challenges and learning opportunities. On June 26th 150 Tåîchô citizens, including youth and elders, departed from Behchokö to complete the annual “Trails of our Ancestors” canoe trip. The 26 canoes are expected to cover more than 400 KM over lakes and portages to reach Gamètì.
On Tuesday July 6th, 2010 the Tåîchô Annual Gathering will take place in Gamètì, NWT. The annual gathering is hosted on a rotational basis in the four Tåîchô communities. Throughout the three day gathering the Tåîchô Assembly will host open forum sessions to hear feedback from their citizens. The Annual Gathering will be broadcast live on CKLB (101.9 FM).
